AlphaBow Energy Pipeline Decommissioning
- client: AlphaBow
- Value: $103, 336.75
- Project Duration: December 2021 - March 2022
This project involved the decommissioning of 25 pipeline segments for AlphaBow Energy in Alberta, completed between May 25 and June 14, 2022. The scope of work included providing three weeks' notice before the start date to ensure proper notifications were made. The team conducted pigging and purging operations using air to remove all fluids and contaminants, with the waste fluids safely transported to a disposal facility, complete with appropriate waste manifests.
The project adhered to AER Directive 20 by cutting the pipeline segments below the surface and utilizing mechanical plugs to permanently seal the pipelines. Cathodic protection was removed as part of the decommissioning process. West ensured that each pipeline segment was properly tagged and documented, including licensee information, license number, line number, and abandonment date at each end of the pipeline.
Additionally, all pig barrels, risers, valves, and scrap pipes were removed and disposed of, with photographic evidence of the cut, plugged, and tagged pipelines provided using a theodolite application. This documentation included date and time stamps for accuracy. Upon completion, West submitted all required pipeline abandonment and SRP documentation for AlphaBow Energy. The project was executed efficiently and within the budget of $103,336.75.
