Prairie Provident Resources Environmental Site Assessments
- client: Prairie Provident Resources Inc.
- Value: $147,096
- Project Duration: May 2023 - November 2023
West undertook a significant environmental site assessment project for Prairie Provident Resources Inc. from May 2023 to November 2023, focusing on weed management and reforestation across multiple sites. The project included two main components: weed management at 16 sites and tree planting at 4 forested locations.
Weed management was essential to maintaining the health of tree species and overall ecosystem integrity. Unwanted vegetation, or weeds, can negatively impact the growth of native plants. West implemented a combination of preventive, cultural, mechanical, and chemical methods to manage weeds effectively. Selective herbicides were applied strategically to control specific weed species without harming the surrounding native vegetation. This approach included targeted applications in areas of high weed density, minimizing environmental impact through careful timing and application techniques.
Reforestation efforts were conducted on four forested sites, focusing on biodiversity and ecological suitability. Native tree species were chosen based on the specific conditions of each site to ensure successful growth and sustainability. West followed best practices for planting, including soil preparation and site maintenance. This involved loosening compacted soil, adding topsoil and organic matter where needed, and implementing annual monitoring to track tree growth and survival rates. Ongoing maintenance also included weed management to support the development of healthy, diverse forest ecosystems.
The project cost totaled $147,096, with $30,096 allocated for weed management and monitoring and $117,000 for tree planting. This comprehensive approach aimed to enhance ecosystem health and promote biodiversity across the assessed sites.
